A look a the roots of our actual ecology in the traditional Occult History
The knowledge of our interdependence in Nature is not new - but it has an history (see: Philosophy is History of Science)
At first, mystics noticed that there were no words for this interdependence (so the Letter was taught to the people).
During the Middle Ages, Hermeticists expressed this knowledge through rituals (which began to manifest in outward signs as production of machines).
When machines became prominent, the intuition of our interdependence in Nature came - actually to Freud, who invented the Unconscious to express it.
Finally Artificial Intelligence (the 'ultimate machine' prophetised by Hermeticists, as statues which would speak and cure) gears our collective psychology, and one gets its full awareness through the expression of 'Ecology'.
The Freudian moment, is understood as a phase (e.g. the intuition of a new formulation) within a long tradition which ends with the realization of Science. It deserves to be connected with the remnant of the former one - e.g. the esoteric Corpus memorized by the Theosophical groups of his time.
A first notation - introduction to the relation of Steiner-Freud - may be found through the lectures Steiner gave focused on History (and therefore Memory). The same Ideal, or center of the Space of Virtuality (Psyke) is investigated by both thinkers. This is shown in Steiner's Studies.
